35,976 nominations for the third phase of Panchayat elections in Jharkhand

Ranchi, May 3 (PTI) A total of 35,976 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the third phase of elections to be held on May 24 in the ongoing Panchayat elections in Jharkhand.

State Election Commission spokesperson said that in the third phase, polling will be held on May 24 for 1,047 panchayats in 70 blocks of 19 districts. He said that till May 2, the last day of nomination for this phase, a total of 35,976 candidates filled their papers. The nomination process for the third phase started on April 25 and can be withdrawn on May 7.

In the third phase, a total of 912 candidates have filled the forms for Zilla Parishad Member, 4,986 for Panchayat Samiti, 7,336 for Mukhiya and 22,742 for Panchayat Member.

He informed that in the third phase, voting will be held to elect 128 Zilla Parishad members.

Earlier, for the second phase of Panchayat elections in Jharkhand, a total of 29347 candidates had filed nomination papers in 16 districts, for which voting will be held on May 19.

A total of 39513 candidates had filed nominations in 21 districts for the first phase in the state for which polling is scheduled on May 14.
