Accused of selling cough syrup caught before setting up factory
The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) has arrested a 27-year-old man for selling codeine cough syrup. The ANC has seized 7,900 vials of syrup, worth Rs 23.70 lakh, from him. The syrup contains a narcotic ‘codeine phosphate’, which is used in Mumbai’s nearby slums including Shivaji Nagar, Mankhurd and Govandi

This action has been carried out by Ghatkopar unit of ANC. According to the ANC, on September 17, the police led by Lata Sutar of Senior Police Inspector, ANC, Ghatkopar unit came to supply syrup by laying a trap near a public toilet located on Ghatkopar-Mankhurd link road near Zakir Hussain Nagar, Mankhurd. The accused was arrested. The accused has been sent to police custody till September 22 by the court.

DCP Datta Nalwade of ANC said that our team arrested Mukesh Rajaram Chaudhary and seized 200 vials of cough syrup worth Rs 60,000 from him. Chowdhary supplies syrup to Shivaji Nagar, Govandi and Mankhurd areas. Chaudhary is a resident of Barapada in Virar. The Ghatkopar ANC raided Chaudhary’s godown in Virar on 18 September and seized 7,700 vials from there.

It is worth noting that this cough syrup is also available in the market under the name Corex, which shopkeepers give to customers only on the advice of doctors. Addicts use cough syrup for intoxication. It is illegally sold for Rs 150 to 300.
