Japan took the lead in the first minute with a goal from forward Riko Yuki but substitute Seo Ji-yeon scored in the 85th minute to level South Korea and force the Japanese team to share the points.
These two teams scored seven points each in Group C with the same two wins and one draw, but Japan finished on top due to a better goal difference. In another match in the same group, Vietnam held Myanmar to a 2-2 draw.
It was only a few seconds after the game started that Yuki broke through the Korean defense to give his team the lead. Yuki and Korean goalkeeper Kim Jung Mi went face-to-face after a perfect pass from Shiori Miyake. Yuki put the ball into the post without making a mistake and Jung could not do anything during this.
Hasegawa put the Korean defense to the test after halftime but Japan failed to double their lead.
Meanwhile, South Korea’s Choo Hyo Joo had a chance to score but could not get past Japanese goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita. Seo eventually scored his first goal in international football and gave South Korea a point.
