Bhawanipur by-election: Calcutta High Court concludes hearing, reserves order
Beni, Dec 25 (AP) An explosion occurred outside a restaurant in the Congolese eastern city of Beni on Christmas Day Saturday. Islamic extremists are believed to be active in the city.

There was no immediate information about casualties in the Beni blast. Pictures from the scene showed several people lying lifeless outside the ‘Inbox’ restaurant.

Shortly after the bombing, heavy gunfire was heard following which the panicked people started running.

Mayor NM Kashale urged people to return home and said that the authorities were investigating what happened. He is also a police colonel.

The city is targeted by rebels of the ‘Allied Democratic Forces’. At the same time, an organization affiliated with the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for two blasts in Beni in June.
