Delhi Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain said on Wednesday that the central government has asked the DDA to allot under-construction flats, putting a dent on the Delhi government’s ‘Jhuggi Same House’ policy.
Addressing a press conference, Jain said, so far 9,104 houses out of total 47,511 are ready. However, now the Delhi government will have to start the work from the beginning, which will take more time.
The minister said that he had written a letter to the Center on the problem being caused by this decision and had also held a meeting on the same issue.
Jain said, even the DDA (Delhi Development Authority) was ready to take some of these flats.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced a policy for construction of EWS flats for the rehabilitation of slum dwellers. The construction was to be done on the vacant land of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader also held a review meeting and directed officials to allot flats meant for EWS and jhuggi-jhopri dwellers within 5 km of their slums at the earliest.
