Bhawanipur by-election: Calcutta High Court concludes hearing, reserves order
Kolkata, May 12 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting him to intervene for the release of MGNREGA and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) funds.

Banerjee said in the letter that her government has not been able to pay even wages for nearly four months due to non-availability of funds.

He said, “It is very surprising that the Government of India is not releasing funds to West Bengal for MGNREGA and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.”

Banerjee said, “The payment of wages in West Bengal is pending for more than four months as the Government of India is not releasing an amount of about Rs 6500 crore to the state. Out of this, an amount of 3000 crores is to be received under the head of wages, while the remaining Rs 3500 crores is to be received under the head of non-wage.

He underlined that West Bengal has been at the top position in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana since 2016-17 and more than 32 lakh houses have been constructed so far.

The Chief Minister said, “Considering the importance of the projects and the difficulties being faced by the common people, I request you to take your immediate intervention and direct the concerned ministries to release the amount without delay.”
