Own report: The Congress in Talani in Punjab, almost wiped out in Uttar Pradesh, almost the same situation in Uttarakhand and Goa. After a meeting of the Congress Working Committee on Sunday, Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday asked the state Congress presidents of five states to resign.
After the tragic results in the assembly elections in five states, there was speculation that Sonia Gandhi could step down with the responsibility of the huge collapse on her head. The details were discussed at a meeting of the party’s working committee on Sunday. According to sources, Sonia told the meeting that she, Rahul and Priyanka wanted to step down with the responsibility of losing the vote. Of course not. However, on Tuesday afternoon, Navjyot Singh Sidhu, who is in charge of Punjab, Ajay Lallu in Uttar Pradesh, Girish Chodnokar in Goa, N Loken Singh in Manipur and Ganesh Godial in Uttarakhand were ordered to step down.
Congress spokesperson Ranadir Singh Surjewala tweeted, “Sonia Gandhi has asked the Congress presidents of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand to resign from their posts. A new provincial congress committee will be formed.
In Punjab, the party has been in a dilemma since the party was disbanded. Many are blaming Navjot Singh Sidhu for this. Even the Congress could not give you any fight in the state. Where UP got 92 seats, Congress got only 20 seats. In a state like Uttar Pradesh, the Congress is cornered at once. The SP has fought very well in that place. The Congress is also in a miserable situation in Goa and Uttarakhand.
Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has asked the PCC Presidents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa & Manipur to put in their resignations in order to facilitate reorganization of PCC’s.

The pressure was mounting on Sonia Gandhi after the poor results of the five-state team. “Sonia Gandhi, Rahul and Priyanka are ready to step down for the party,” Adhir Chowdhury told reporters on Sunday. But we have opposed it. Rahul Gandhi, however, has no position in the party. He stepped down as party president after the tragic results of the 2019 elections.
