DMDK chief Vijayakanth on Wednesday said that his party will set up local bodies in the newly formed nine districts of the state.
Chennai. DMDK chief Vijayakanth on Wednesday said his party will contest the scheduled local body elections in the newly formed nine districts of the state alone. In a release issued here, he said instead of fighting in alliance with anyone, the party has decided to contest the rural local body elections alone. Candidates willing to contest elections can get applications from their respective district party office on Thursday and Friday.
The applications have to be filled and submitted back to the office. He said that the office bearers and primary members of the party are eligible to apply. The application fee for the post of Zilla Panchayat Union member is 4 thousand, while for the post of Panchayat Union member, Rs 2 thousand has been kept.
It is noteworthy that the DMDK contested the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with the AIADMK. However, the party left the AIADMK alliance due to non-allotment of the seat sought in the assembly elections. After that the party formed an alliance with Dinakaran-led party Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam and contested the elections. However, the party could not get success from a single seat.
