Guwahati: Amid Durga Puja celebrations, a moderate-intensity earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale struck eastern Assam bordering Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. There is no report of any casualty and damage to property.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said tremors were felt in Lakhimpur district of Assam and adjoining Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday afternoon.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km from the surface.
Disaster management officials in Guwahati said that there was no report of any injury or damage to property and other properties so far.
Incessant earthquakes in the northeastern states, especially in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur, are worrying the authorities. On April 28, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake caused damage to buildings, roads and other properties in parts of Assam and the northeastern region.
Seismologists consider the Northeast region to be the sixth most earthquake prone region in the world.
