Last year alone, 219 transgender people of the district were benefitted from the department’s schemes, which include scholarships for children, hostel fees, financial assistance for hormonal therapy during the pandemic, meal kits and financial assistance for marriages. However, the official said that many people are unaware of the various schemes and only a few have come forward to help with the marriage.

These are the schemes. According to the officials, every student will get Rs 3,000 per month as scholarship from class VII. Last year, five transgender students had availed the scholarship. 18 people were helped step by step for sex reassignment surgery and aftercare. We have also launched schemes for skill development (Sakalyam) and emergency financial assistance (Karuthal) this year. Distance learning students started receiving scholarships last year.
