The Congress high command has replaced Charanjit Singh Channi on the throne by removing party veteran Amarinder Singh from the post of Chief Minister in Punjab. In this way, it has put a halt to the political tussle that has been going on in the state for a long time. It seems that now he is in the mood to relax. This can be gauged from the fact that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have reached Shimla to celebrate the three holidays.
Reach Shimla one by one
Sonia reached Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, by air on Monday morning, from where she left for Shimla by road. In the evening, Rahul also reached here after attending the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. The ceremony was about to end when Rahul reached the Raj Bhavan.
After spending some time with the party leaders, he left for Shimla by road. An official told news agency IANS that the Gandhi family is likely to stay here for two-three days. There are no plans for him to meet any party functionary during this time.
How is Priyanka’s cottage?
Priyanka’s cottage has five rooms. This cottage is made of wooden planks. Its slope is of tiles. This cottage is situated at an altitude of more than 8,000 feet above flat ground at Charabra, about 15 km from Shimla. Priyanka had built this cottage in the year 2007 by buying four bighas of land near Wildflower Hall. She comes here regularly. Currently, she is celebrating a holiday here with her children, mother and brother.
Channi became the new captain of Punjab
Charanjit Singh Channi took oath as the CM of Punjab on Monday. After the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday, the exercise to make a new Chief Minister in the state intensified. After a long consultation, the choice of Rahul Gandhi and Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was finally stamped on Channi’s name. He is the first Dalit Sikh Chief Minister of the state. The main reason for the loss of Captain Amarinder’s chair was his long-standing tussle with Sidhu.
