New York: Heavy snow and wind are blowing through New York City and surrounding areas.
New York City is expected to receive a total of 8 to 12 inches of snowfall from Friday evening to early Sunday, Xinhua news agency quoted a forecast released by the National Weather Service.
New York Governor Cathy Hochul said in a press briefing at around noon on Saturday that Suffolk and Nassau counties are most affected Saturday morning with 7 to 11 inches of snowfall and 5 to 12 inches of snowfall is expected.
Hochul said New York City has recorded 4 inches of snowfall so far, while 4-7 inches more snow is expected before 3 p.m.
Earlier, Hochul had declared a state of emergency on Friday evening due to the possibility of heavy snowfall.
A tweet from the National Weather Service at 9 a.m. on Saturday said, “John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Central Park received more than 5 inches of snowfall in the past 12 hours.
