India worried about polio cases being found in Afghanistan and Pakistan, pulse polio campaign will run in Bihar from 26 to 30 September

Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that the Government of India is worried and alert about the polio patients being found in neighboring countries. In fact, if a single patient of polio is found anywhere in the world, then there is a possibility of the polio virus coming again. Mangal Pandey said that keeping in mind that polio did not spread again in India, on the instructions of the Government of India, a pulse polio campaign would be launched in the state from 26 to 30 September under International Immunization Day.

The Health Minister said, keeping in view any festival, this campaign can also be extended by one day at the local level. During the campaign, a special monitoring team will be formed by the Health Department to ensure that children from remote areas, basa, brick kilns, migrant and traveling population areas do not miss out on polio doses. Special surveillance teams will ensure that the children are given polio drops.

Mangal Pandey said that in the year 2020, 56 polio patients were found in Afghanistan and 84 in Pakistan. In this year i.e. 2021 also, many polio patients have been found in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This is a matter of concern not only for India, but also for other countries of the world. The Health Minister said that before and during the Pulse Polio campaign, DMs of all the districts will hold a meeting of the District Task Force before the start of the Polio Round. During the meeting, polio rounds will review the preparedness and give directions to the concerned officers to maintain the high quality of work.

Trained vaccine personnel will be deputed at major transit points, bus stands, railway stations, chowk intersections, etc. during the Pulse Polio campaign to administer medicines to more and more children. Vaccinators will give a dose of polio to all the children passing by, paying special attention to them. During the campaign, special attention will be given to polio vaccination for newborns.
