Jammu: The people of the snow-covered Khai village of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir were facing water scarcity for decades and drinking water connection was no less than a dream for them, but now their homes have access to drinking water. The villagers are not tired of expressing their gratitude to the army for providing the supplies. The army has solved the problems of the local people, especially the women, who had to walk miles to fetch drinking water, by supplying water to a remote mountain village under ‘Operation Sadbhavna’.

Water delivered to Khoi village of Doda

Jammu-based Defense Public Relations Officer Lt Col Devendra Anand said, “Khai village is located in a remote area of ​​Gandoh and the local unit of Army took up the responsibility of supplying water to the village considering the plight of the people.” Anand, who also shared a short video clip of the ‘Sadbhavna’ project on the official Twitter handle, said the Army is making constant efforts to reach out to the people and mitigate their problems.

Villagers are not tired of praising the army

“Army took the initiative and necessary material including water storage tanks and pipes were provided. The army and the local population jointly made underground arrangements to provide water supply to the village.’ In the video, all the villagers are praising the army because it was their dream to have water available.

‘Indian Army made our life easy’
During the winter, the villagers used to melt snow for drinking and for other necessities like cooking and washing clothes. Rubina Begum, a local resident, said, “We had to walk two to three kilometers daily to fetch water. Indian Army made our life easy. The women of the village are grateful to the army for this project.

‘The local people got a big relief with the help of the army’
Another local resident, Tariq Hussain, also lauded the army for reaching out to the poor population and meeting their long-standing demand. Ata Mohammad, a government school teacher, said that the help of the army has brought great relief to the local people. Block Development Council (BDC) chairperson Fatima Farooq said the village in her block had no water supply for centuries. He said, ‘Army completed the water supply scheme under Operation Sadbhavna, which is highly commendable.’
