The work on the new terminal of the airport, the most important to take the industrial city to a new era, has started getting delayed. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Rajkiya Nirman Nigam have decided that the work on the new building will be completed by December 31. Chakeri Airport director Bhrigukant Jha has confirmed this. He said that 50 per cent of the work has been completed. Recently, the Special Secretary of the Civil Aviation Department, who came from Lucknow, had instructed to complete the work within the stipulated time.
Model arrived in February 2020
The work order was issued in October-2019 after the Lok Sabha elections. The work was to be completed in 16 months. It had a terminal building to be built in 6250 square meters, new-taxiway, night landing system, etc. In February-2020, the model of the new terminal was ready.
work stalled due to covid
Rajkiya Nirman Nigam was to complete the work in 16 months by June-21, but due to Kovid, the work got delayed. In January-2021, after the inspection of administrative officials, it was told that the work would be completed by June, but the second wave of Kovid came.
A few days ago, the budget for the proposed 4-lane road to connect the new terminal building with Prayagraj Highway was received from the state government. Now compensation will be distributed. It will take 4-6 months to build the road. It is being told that till now the civil work on the construction site has not been completed.
The delay in the construction of new buildings with state-of-the-art facilities has started affecting private airlines as well. Till now, the services of SpiceJet, which is operating the flight monopoly at Kanpur airport, have become horribly irregular. Every day the company cancels flights. Despite taking the slot from AAI, the direct flight to Amritsar starting from Wednesday could not start. Regular flights to Kolkata also get canceled due to alleged low passenger load.
When will the flight start, for where
There is talk of Ahmedabad flight starting from November. IndiGo, on the other hand, will operate 180-seater daily flights from Kanpur to Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore from October 15. Its full schedule has been released. In the past, the team of Inter Globe Aviation, which reached Kanpur, was given space for the check-in counter and other facilities. According to the October schedule, there will be 7 flights every day from Kanpur.
