Bhawanipur by-election: Calcutta High Court concludes hearing, reserves order
Kolkata, Nov 25 (PTI) The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday told the Calcutta High Court that the State Election Commission has announced the election schedule for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, while the elections to all the local bodies in West Bengal are being held on the same day. His petition regarding the request is being heard in the court.

Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice R. Bhardwaj directed the counsel for the petitioner and West Bengal BJP vice-president Pratap Banerjee to file his complaints in the form of an affidavit.

The bench said that the matter will be heard on Monday only, as has already been decided.

The BJP’s counsel said that despite its petition pending in the High Court, the election for Kolkata Municipal Corporation was announced on December 19.

The State Election Commission has announced the date of Kolkata Municipal Corporation election by fixing the election schedule based on the notification of the state government.

The BJP claims that it is like ignoring the case pending in the court. The first hearing of the case in this regard took place on November 16.

The division bench had said on Wednesday that it would hear the BJP’s plea on November 29.
