Dean removed after Sanskrit replaces English oath;  Madurai Medical College

The Stalin government of Tamil Nadu got angry. Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan and Revenue Minister P Murthy were present at the event. Thiagarajan claimed that he was shocked when the students recited the Charaka oath. I was quite surprised when I heard the new oath, I always thought doctors took the Hippocratic Oath.

After this there was a ruckus and the angry government transferred Dr. Rattinavel, Dean of Madurai Medical College and put him on the waiting list. There will also be a departmental inquiry against him. Following the action, the dean claimed that the secretary of the student cabinet who prepared the oath had mistakenly downloaded the Maharishi Charaka oath instead of the Hippocratic oath.

Central Government- Actually Maharishi Charak Oath has been recommended by the National Medical Commission. This has been recommended in the new syllabus for medical students. However, there is no compulsion to take this oath. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had recently said in the Parliament that this arrangement will be optional, students will not be forced to take this oath.

Recently, as per the new changes in the health education framework, NMC i.e. National Medical Commission had recommended to replace the Hippocratic Oath taken by the medical students with Maharishi Charak Oath.
