A 17-year-old girl, who appeared for the NEET exam in Velur district, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday. The girl’s body was found at her house near Katpadi in Velur district. Police quoted her family members as saying that the girl was afraid of poor performance in the examination. No suicide note has been found from him. This is the third case of suicide in Tamil Nadu within four days because of NEET.
According to the police, student T. Soundarya was married to her parents S. Thirunavukasaru and T. Rukhmani in Kathalpattu village of Kanniyambadi block near Katpadi. Soundarya’s parents were daily wage laborers and left for work early Wednesday, leaving her alone at home. When the neighbor called Soundarya around 10.30 am, she did not answer their calls and the house was locked from inside. Reported to his parents and relatives.
Police reached the spot, found the body inside and sent it to Velur Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. According to the police, Soundarya did her schooling in the village and secured top marks in the Class X and XII board examinations.
He has secured 510 marks out of 600 in class XII. When she returned home after taking the exam, she told her mother that the paper was too difficult and she feared poor performance. She had also told her friends and neighbors that she was worried about the results of the NEET exam. Superintendent of Police (SP) S Selvakumar said she was depressed for two days after taking the exam on Sunday. A case has been registered under section 164 of CrPC.
