- The major reason for the fatal infection of Omicron is that the virus remains active for a long time.
Omicron lasts longer
Researchers at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine compared the ability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to survive on different surfaces in a form found in Wuhan with other severe forms. The researchers found that the alpha, beta, delta and omicron variants can stay on the skin and plastic coating for more than twice as long as the Wuhan variants of the virus. This is the reason that the rate of infection from these variants has been recorded much higher than the original variant found in Wuhan, China. However, this study has not been reviewed at this time.
Omicron lifespan longer than all variants
The researchers reported that the Wuhan form can survive on plastic surfaces for an average of 56 hours, compared to 191.3 hours, 156.6 hours, 59.3 hours, 114 hours and 193.5 hours for the alpha, beta, gamma, delta and ohmicron forms, respectively. Hours are counted. According to the researchers, the Wuhan form on the skin is able to last for 8.6 hours. At the same time, the alpha form can survive for 19.6 hours, the beta form 19.1 hours, the gamma form 11 hours, the delta form 16.8 hours and the Omicron form 21.1 hours.
Last week the transition created a new record
The World Health Organization has reported that more than 21 million new cases of corona virus infection were reported worldwide last week. This is the highest weekly figure since the start of the pandemic. According to the weekly data released by the WHO on Tuesday, a five percent increase was registered in the new cases of Kovid-19 globally in the last week (between January 17 and 23). More than 21 million new patients infected with the corona virus came worldwide. At the same time, more than 50 thousand people also died due to infection.
