Ramallah: Palestine has extended the coronavirus-related emergency for another month despite a decrease in fresh cases and deaths.

In a decree issued by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, a state of emergency was imposed with immediate effect from Saturday to stop the spread of the virus, Xinhua news agency quoted state media as saying.

The state of emergency was first issued in March 2020 after the first cases of coronavirus were discovered in the Palestinian Territories and has been extended or re-declared every month since then.

According to state media reports, Abbas called on the competent authorities to take all necessary measures to address the risks posed by the coronavirus, protect public health and achieve safety and stability.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement that 210 cases of coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours while 7 people have died.

There has been a decline in deaths and new cases in recent days compared to the previous few weeks, the statement said.
