Ponzi scam: ED attaches I-Core group assets worth Rs 300 crore

Kolkata, Sep 27 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday attached properties worth nearly Rs 300 crore of the I-Core group in connection with its money laundering probe in an alleged Ponzi scam. Sources gave this information.

Sources said the properties seized by the probe agency belonged to 11 companies of the I-Core group, its directors late Anukul Maity and Kanika Maiti, besides their family members.

“The attached properties include bank accounts, plots, factories, shopping complexes and several residential properties,” the sources said.

Like the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund companies, the i-Core group is accused of raising funds from the public through its alleged fraudulent schemes, luring investors to get a huge refund for their investments.

The CBI has also questioned West Bengal ministers Partha Chatterjee and Manas Ranjan Bhuyan for their alleged involvement in the Ponzi scam in the past. The agency also questioned Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra on Monday.
