Own report: India’s Drug Controller General (DCGI) on Thursday approved the conditional release of Covishield and Covaxin. An earlier report had said that DCGI was expected to approve Covishield and Covaxin vaccines on a regular basis after pricing. According to sources, the price of Covishield and Covaxin may be capped at Rs 265 per dose and additional service charge of Rs 150.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has been directed to start work on setting affordable prices for vaccines. So far, Covaxin has been priced at Rs 1,200 per dose and Covishield in private places at Rs 60. It comes with a service charge of 150 rupees. Both vaccines are only approved for emergency use in the country.

Although the vaccine is not available in general drug stores. Private hospitals and clinics will be able to buy and vaccinate these vaccines. Vaccination information must be submitted to DCGI every six months and that information must be updated in the CoWIN app.

An expert committee on Covid-19 from the Central Drugs Standards Control Organization on January 19 recommended that the Covid vaccine Covishield and Covaxin be approved for regular market use for adult use, subject to certain conditions.
