India’s Avani Lekhara has won the country’s first gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympics, creating history in shooting. Avani won the gold medal in the final match with 249.6 points. He equaled the world record by scoring 249.6 in the final and finished first. Avani has become the first female player from India to win a gold medal in the Paralympics. She surpassed China’s Zhang Kuiping (248.9 points). Ukraine’s Iriana Shetnik (227.5) won the bronze. Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has congratulated Avin on this performance.

Neeraj wrote on Twitter, ‘Congratulations. Avni Lekra. This is your first Paralympics, in which you have done amazingly. You have given us all a chance to hear the national anthem once again in Tokyo with your performance. Apart from him, Mirabai Chanu, who won the silver medal in weightlifting in Tokyo Olympics, also congratulated Avin Lekhara for winning the gold medal in shooting for India at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. With Avin winning the gold medal, India also has its first medal in the shooting competition of these games. This is also the country’s first gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. She is the third Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympic Games. Women’s table tennis player Bhavinaben Patel and high jumper Nishad Kumar won silver medals on Sunday but Vinod Kumar’s bronze medal in the discus throw F52 event was withheld due to protests over their qualifications.
