UP Chunav 2022: They have come together but how will Akhilesh strike a balance between Shivpal and Ramgopal?
Lucknow
After about five and a half years, when SP chief Akhilesh Yadav reached uncle Shivpal’s house, Shivpal was waiting standing in the verandah. Seeing both the leaders together, the workers raised slogans.. Akhilesh-Shivpal Zindabad. In fact, coming together with uncle and nephew has given way to those supporters who do not want to defeat Akhilesh and do not want to see Shivpal weaken. However, many knots of alliance are yet to be uncovered.

Before the split in the SP and the struggle of the Saifai family in late 2016, Shivpal was among the most important people of Mulayam Singh Yadav family and politically. Even during Akhilesh’s becoming the CM, Shivpal used to have effective interference in the decisions related to the organization, from the ticket to the ticket. Due to the separation of the path of Akhilesh-Shivpal, there was a situation of crossroads between the cadre and supporters of the party.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, PSP contested on 83 seats and got only 3.47 lakh votes. However, a major reason for the loss of SP from Firozabad and its alliance partner BSP from Sultanpur seat was Shivpal’s party Praspa. From Firozabad, SP General Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav’s son Akshay Yadav lost the election to the BJP candidate by about 18 thousand votes, while Shivpal got about 92 thousand votes there.

Similarly, in Sultanpur also BJP won by only 15 thousand votes, whereas, PSP got 32 thousand votes. The contest in the assembly gets closer. In such a situation, the distribution of votes in this way can be heavy on the SP in 2022 as well. The coming together of both the parties will strengthen the SP, especially in the Yadav belt.

Seats and adjustments are not easy
Shivpal was accompanied by some MLAs and former MLAs who left the SP. For example, Sirsa MLA from Firozabad Hari Om Yadav openly stood with Shivpal. Former ministers Sharda Pratap Shukla, Shadab Fatima and other faces also came with Shivpal. The adjustment of these faces was coming in the way of Praspa’s merger with the SP.

Even during the alliance, their adjustment will not be easy. Because, the seats on which the particular supporters of Shivpal will stake claim, are already claiming the faces of the SP. The question is also that the clan of SP’s alliance is increasing. On the other hand, Akhilesh Yadav has said that SP will fight on about 350 seats.

In such a situation, the adjustment of half a dozen alliance partners in just 52 seats and finding a ‘respectable’ seat formula for Praspa will also be a difficult task. Party sources say that the SP is preparing to find a way out only with the option of fielding its candidate on the symbol of another.

The challenge of ‘Pari’ War’ also
Ram Gopal Yadav was the biggest challenger for Shivpal in SP. He is the party’s principal national general secretary and also stood by Akhilesh in the 2016 Parivar. Shivpal will also have to contend with this factor for seat-sharing and adjustment. In a recent book centered on Ram Gopal Yadav, the authors’ tone was sharp about Shivpal.

It will also be important that with the alliance with Shivpal Yadav, what other paths will open for the unity of the family. Mulayam’s younger daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav will also have a churn on which party will be the contender for the assembly elections.
