The Congress party has demanded the Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker to cancel the assembly membership of Purola MLA Rajkumar, who left the Congress and joined the BJP last Sunday.
Dehradun. Before the assembly elections in all the states of the country, now the Congress seems to be coming in a very tough attitude. After the latest developments in Punjab, now Congress has taken a big step in Uttarakhand. The Congress has written a letter to the Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, demanding cancellation of the membership of one of its former MLAs.
Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee President and former MLA Ganesh Godiyal has written a letter to the Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. In this letter, he has written, “As you already know that the current MLA of Purola assembly constituency is Rajkumar. Rajkumar was elected MLA on the election symbol of the Congress party. The Indian public without him resigning as a member of the assembly. Party membership has been accepted.”
He further wrote, “Since Rajkumar is an elected MLA on the Congress party’s election symbol in the current term and has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party without resigning from the membership of the party and the assembly membership. In such a situation, according to the guidelines of the Election Commission. Accordingly, under the anti-defection law mentioned in the constitution against the prince, not only his current assembly membership should be abolished, but he should also be disqualified for the upcoming assembly elections.

Godiyal further wrote, “The Congress party demands from you that the guidelines of the Election Commission of India and the Constitution of India
Acting against the prince in accordance with the anti-defection law mentioned in his current assembly membership
and to be disqualified for the upcoming assembly elections.”
In fact, on Sunday last week, Congress MLA from Purola seat of Uttarkashi, Rajkumar, leaving the claws of the Congress, took the BJP’s lotus. The Congress MLA’s move was considered a major setback for the party ahead of the Uttarakhand assembly elections next year.
However, at that time Ganesh Godiyal had said that Rajkumar was a weak link in the party, which broke up prematurely. He had further said that the prince has insulted not only the mandate but also the people of his area. He also accused the BJP of sabotage and said that the BJP has a long history in this. The party has been busy trying to break the MLAs of the opposition party by luring money in other states including Uttarakhand not only in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Goa.
