Agra: A Dalit boy was shot at allegedly by his senior friends for not greeting him. At the time of the incident, the Dalit student was going for tuitions. The boy is a student of class 10th. The youths shot him in the leg.
He is a student of a local public school and both the accused are students of class 12th in an inter college.
Police said the accused boys are adults and one of them has been arrested while the other is absconding. The student is out of danger.
Police said an FIR has been registered under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
It is also being probed that from where the accused got the firearm and bullets.
According to reports, the accused first thrashed the Dalit boy and then one of them took out a country-made pistol and fired at the student and fled.
The local people immediately took the student to the hospital.
New Agra police station SHO Arvind Narwal said that the condition of the victim is stable and search is on for the other accused.
The arrested accused was booked on charges of attempt to murder last year and has been remanded to judicial custody, but was later released on bail.
